Studying an RYA theory course using the Internet is an entirely new way of learning.
Using the RYA syllabus, the course has been carefully built into six tutorial and assessment modules that you download from our training site or install from a CD. The tutorials are studied off-line at your PC.
Each module is divided into a series of topics each with interactive and fully illustrated teaching material that provides you with a progressive and logical route to understanding. The seventh module is reserved for the final assessment. The text is illustrated with over 270 high quality illustrations.
Course Duration - Tailored to suit you
Research shows that to complete a course of study students benefit from a defined structure with deadlines, otherwise study tends to take second place to other demands. We have designed this course to have an average duration of 7 weeks to enable students to pace themselves. However we appreciate the need for flexibility, which is why the course can studied at any pace up to a maximum of 12 months. This allows you to spread your study over a period to suit you.
Which System? - Download or CD
We offer 2 methods for studying our courses - the download method, where the material is downloaded from our training website, or the CD/Web method.
The essential difference between the two systems lies in the method of access to the material. In the download method the study material and assessments are downloaded on a tutorial-by-tutorial basis from the website, whereas the CD/Web method has all the study material and assessments on a CD, so there are no lengthy downloads. The way the system works is given in detail below.
How does the system work ?
- You will receive your student support pack through the post. This contains all you need to complete the course. All courses include the RYA / Admiralty Electronic Chart Plotter (training version). The course material and assessment questions are either downloaded from our training website, www.cmtraining.co.uk or installed from a CD if you opt for the CD/Web method.
- You will be assigned a fully qualified RYA instructor who will mark your assessment exercises and guide you through the complete course.
- Once your course begins you download week 1 of the study material and assessment questions, or install them from the CD.
- You study the material subject by subject and practice what you have learned using the carefully tailored assessment questions and other exercises.
- To submit your answers for marking you logon to the training site www.cmtraining.co.uk and access the answer form, which you can fill out off-line. Once completed you re-connect to the Internet and submit the form to your instructor.
- Assessments are marked within 24 hours (typically within 5 hours). The results and feedback are e-mailed to you by your instructor.
- This process is continued throughout the course and since every module is carefully designed to allow you to work progressively you'll have fun and gain satisfaction with your increasing knowledge from day one.
- One-to-one tuition is available from your instructor so you should never feel alone if you experience a problem.
- Your instructor can be contacted by e-mail, via www.cmtraining.co.uk, fax, or phone.
- The final assessment questions are downloaded from the training site, but as we need see your final chartwork, your answers must be posted to us for marking by regular mail or scanned and attached to an e-mail.
- Provided you have passed the course your certificate will be posted to you within 14 days.
